Enjoy re-reading Fr. John's weekly bulletin letters for the past year.
Just a few days left until our annual Parish Festival on April 5, Saturday. The fun begins around Noon and continues to 9pm so please plan to join us with your family and friends. Our Festival Preview Dinner (so called since you can preview the Silent and Live Auction Items will be held on Friday Evening starting at 6pm. On the menu (since it is a Friday of Lent) are Baked Fish & Chips, Fish Tacos, a Fish Fry and lots of salads and desserts. Afterwards join us for a Casino Night, Hot Air Balloon rides and a chance to purchase some premium parking for the day of the Festival. Childcare will be available.
This weekend we are making it easy for you get your Festival tickets now and not have to wait in line the day of the Festival. Purchase your tickets for the Preview Dinner, ride tickets for the children, food and drink tickets, and Super Raffle tickets! Don't forget to get a Festival Tee shirt that was designed by one of our school children. On the day of the Festival we will have both a Silent Auction and a Live Auction!
Our annual Festival is a fun and exciting way to exercise good stewardship of your Parish. Obviously all the many volunteers (over 500!) who put it all together make it run smoothly and clean up afterwards are generously giving of their time and talent. And so don't forget to thank all of them you see working the day of the Festival.
Along with the Festival, making use of our Food For Thought Program is another way to be a good steward of the Parish. It is simple and cost free. But you have to remember to purchase the gift cards from the Parish first so that we get credit from the various vendors. Also if you haven't done so yet please link your Fry's VIP card to Mt. Carmel and we will receive a percentage of your total purchases as well. This is in addition to using Fry's Gifts cards that you can purchase at our Food for Thought Table.
And finally don't forget the AZ Tax Credit for Private Education. There is still time for you to donate to Catholic Education Arizona before you file your 2013 Taxes. You can donate any amount but can only claim an AZ Tax Credit for $1053/individual and $2106/married this year on your AZ state income taxes you file and yes you can use the short form. Remember that a tax credit means that you get the entire amount you donate back, either in a refund check or deducted from any AZ taxes that you might owe. You have until April 15 to donate to take the tax credit for the 2013 Tax year. You can also claim this donation as a charitable deduction on your Federal Income Taxes. And this year for any new or first time donors the National Bank of Arizona will match your donation, thereby doubling your gift. That will go a long way to assist our families in affording a Catholic school education.
Why do this? Well this is one way you can direct how some of your tax money gets used. We use it to help our families afford the tuition associated with our school. Additionally the State of Arizona likes it because every child in a private or parochial school saves the state lots of money. You can go to our web site and click on the link at the bottom of the page for Catholic Education Arizona and make a donation. Otherwise you can pick up a brochure in the Church, School or Parish Office and mail your donation or drop it off at the Parish or School Office. And if you use a Tax Preparer just let them know you want to donate to the AZ Tax Credit for Private Education and they'll do the rest. IT'S ALL VERY EASY! We have partnered with H&R Block so if you utilize their services they will know exactly what to do. Just remember to earmark your donation for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School (#122).
As you can see there are lots of ways to be a good steward and to bring stewardship into your every day daily activities. Stewardship is indeed a way of life. Embrace it and you will see the blessing that you provide to others!
So next Saturday come to the Festival, eat, drink, bid on auction items, and let's rejoice together! People of Mt. Carmel: RISE UP and be good Stewards of your Parish and School!
Love, Fr. John B.
P.S. The Knights of Columbus will be directing parking in our lot and in an overflow lot east of the Church property. Please do not park in the Shopping Center north of the Parish.BACK TO LIST
