Enjoy re-reading Fr. John's weekly bulletin letters for the past year.
"War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength."
"It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words."
― George Orwell, 1984
I feel very simpatico with Justice Scalia. The jurist tries his best to apply rigorous logic and reason to the law all the while the other side starts with a predetermined outcome and then plays judicial jujitsu to supply their reasoning or lack there of. In the recent case King v Burwell, Justice Scalia lamented that "Words no longer have meaning if an Exchange that is not established by a State is 'established by the State."
I feel his pain. We all should. Our country has clearly rejected reason and logic and opted for emotion. New ideas that the elite wish to use to change our society are speedily whipped around social and other media to get you to believe that there is a ground swell of support for such ideas. Consent to the ideas requires not logic or reason but pure emotion enforced with fear. Making a decision based on emotion is like succumbing to a fast pace sales pitch with out reading the fine print. "Gee, it sounded like a good idea at the time."
What we are being fed is a steady stream of propaganda, wrapped in the language of civil rights. What we miss is the emotional manipulation that is designed to disorient and overwhelm reason so that there is no real debate on the merits of an idea. Everything must be accepted on blind faith. And when someone points out that the emperor has no clothes, new laws are promulgated designed to silence dissent.
The new ideas foisted upon us by the elite and promoted by their propaganda mouth pieces in the media and academia are often sold to us as just "live and let live" it won't affect you, it's all about love and equal rights. Nice ideas until you see what is behind them. Take for instance same-sex marriage, most of us thought it was just about gay rights, but what we didn't know was that one of the wedding presents was fascism. Speak up for man-woman marriage and you might lose your job, be accused or even charged with hate speech. There is only on way to think and if you think otherwise the reeducation of your mind will be necessary.
In order to enforce these new ideas the muscle of the long arm of government needs to be strengthened. The way to do that is to stir up people's emotions so that they eventually join the mob. And the mob will demand an end to things like the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and will form a posse to flush out anyone or any baker or florist who holds on to the old ideas. And while you were trying to placate the mob at your door you failed to realize that the First Amendment is collapsing.
With the aid of a Supreme Court that insists on practicing "logicide" our first freedoms are on life support. True the First Amendment will remain on the books but gutted of all its meaning. Now when religious objections are made, religious people will have to go hat in hand to beg for "exemptions". Freedom of religion and Freedom of Speech once the norm are now granted only by exemptions. And when the Red Queen seizes power, well then it's "off with their heads".
Totalitarianism, tyranny with its characteristic Groupthink and mob mentality can not survive the light of logic. That is why someone like Justice Scalia is so scorned. It is also why freedom of expression is so pivotal since it promotes logic and the search for truth. As Christians we should not settle for the right to exist by exemption. As Americans we have to resist being pulled into mass delusion or allowing some fantasy to dictate reality. Resistance is much more effective than submission.
"There was truth and there was untruth, and if you clung to the truth even against the whole world, you were not mad."
― George Orwell, 1984
God Bless America.
