This week we welcome our fifth and final Servant of the Plan of God: Sr. Stephanie Collins Salazar. Now we have five of a kind. We just keep winning and winning! Getting sick of winning yet? Sister Stephanie is a native of Lima and was a bit delayed in coming, as she was finishing up her University studies. Sister left South America on the first day of Fall and arrived up here just in time for Spring. Lucky her, she missed a winter! She also escaped the torrential rains and heavy mudslides that are causing chaos in Peru. In fact, some of the Sisters had to be evacuated from their convent and move in temporarily with another convent in Lima. Additionally, the town where Sr. Maria Christina is from, Trujillo, has been especially hard hit by mudslides and is affecting her family there. So keep the people of Peru in your prayers.
Well, if you are not tired of winning yet, then make sure to head to our annual Parish Festival on Saturday, April 1, from noon-9pm and also to our Festival Preview Dinner (where you can preview items for our Silent Auction) on Friday, March 31, at 5pm. On the menu for the Preview Dinner are soups from around the world, specifically an Italian Pasta e Fagioli soup and an Ecuadorian Shrimp Soup (made by Sr. Veronica). For those with more somber tastes, a delicious creamy potato soup, breads, salads, and fantastic desserts will be available as well.
The Festival Day is also a winner. There are dozens of items to bid on at the Silent Auction, and our Live Auction will start around 4pm. Don’t forget to get your Super Raffle Ticket for a chance to win $10,000! There will also be plenty of fun for the children, rides, games, lots of homemade food, and live entertainment.
Please invite your friends and neighbors, as this is a celebration for the entire community. What a great way to celebrate the arrival of Sr. Stephanie! Let’s keep the spirit of winning alive: win the Super Raffle, win a great auction item, win a $2500 Gift Certificate for Coffin & Trout Jewelers in our new Jewelry Raffle, win a trip for two, win a used car (2010 Mini Cooper with low mileage), win a home-cooked dinner with the 5 Sisters! And most importantly of all, your support helps us keep a winning budget for our elementary school!
This year our Festival Theme is “Unity in Community.” It’s a good reminder for us at a time when divisiveness is all around us, that unity and unanimity start on the local level. I know this is absolutely astonishing to say, so you better sit down - there is more to life than politics! Our Festival is a great reminder of one of the essential purposes of the Church: to form a community empowered by the love of God, which in turn brings peace and reconciliation to a hurting world. So come out on Saturday and spend time with old friends and make some new friends and enjoy yourself!
