Lenten Events
by Fr Charlie Goraieb | 03/19/2023 | Weekly ReflectionDear Friends,
We have two very special Lenten events coming up this week that I hope you will put into your calendars. On Wednesday, Dcn. Dennis Lambert, an author and Deacon of our Diocese, will come to speak to us about the Real Presence of the Eucharist. For Catholics, the belief that Jesus Christ is truly present in the Holy, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity is (or should be) a given. This doctrine, above all others, is the bedrock of our Catholic Faith.
I am aware of the recent surveys showing that large percentages of Catholics do not believe in the Real Presence. I suspect that most of those surveyed were not faithful, weekly mass-going Catholics; but sadly, some were. I also know that many faithful Catholics who receive Holy Communion regularly and who believe in the real presence, would have a hard time explaining just what that is.
This is where Deacon Dennis will be a great blessing to us. He has written an excellent, very readable book, For Real, in which he explains the Catholic understanding of the Eucharist in four steps.
Please plan on coming to pray and hear him speak. And for good measure, invite your Catholic friend who may have his or her doubts.
On Saturday, March 25, the Feast of the Annunciation, we have the privilege of hosting Floriani. They are a men's vocal ensemble dedicated to serving the Church and saving the culture through the beauty of sacred music. They bring sacred music to life with beautiful vocal harmonies that lead you into prayer.
They will be singing at the 5pm Vigil Mass and then returning for a concert at 7pm, followed by a wine and cheese reception. Admission is free, but we will take free will offerings. If you’ve not yet been to an event of this kind, you owe it to yourself to embrace the great beauty and joy that that our Catholic Classic musical tradition can bring.
May God bless you and your family, Fr Charlie
