Adult Confirmation & RCIA Classes

Whether you were baptized Catholic as a baby and never completed your formation in the Church, are a strong non-Catholic Christian looking to delve into the richness of Catholicism for the first time, are from other non-Christian belief systems, or have never prayed a day in your life, the Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) will meet you where you are at in your search for Truth and journey with you closer to the heart of Jesus and His one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

For a period of nine months (September to May) we will be discussing the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church in a welcoming and open atmosphere where we hope to have authentic discussions about our faith, provide opportunities for fellowship, prepare those willing to receive their sacraments of initiation in the Easter Vigil (Baptism and/or Communion and Confirmation) and helping you find a place in our parish community and develop a rich prayer life and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. From June to August we have Inquiry sessions for those who have questions about the Catholic faith and want to understand if RCIA will be a fit for them. We encourage anyone who intends to join to reach out throughout the year so we can help you get ready for this beautiful process.

Infant Baptism Preparation Class

From the first centuries, the Church, to whom the mission of evangelizing and baptizing has been given, baptized not only adults but also children. Since the Lord said, "No one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit" (John 3:5), the Church has always understood that children are not to be deprived of Baptism. The faith of this Church is proclaimed during the baptism by the parents, godparents, and others present because they represent both the local Church and the whole company of Saints and faithful.

Parents who intend to have their children baptized in our parish are required to attend a baptismal preparation class either at Our Lady of Mount Carmel or at another parish. The monthly infant baptism preparation class for parents and godparents is still taking place. Registration is required. If you are planning on baptizing your child, please email our Ministry head.

Marriage Preparation – Unitas Program

“Unitas: Preparing for a Sacramental Marriage” is the program base for the marriage preparation program. Unitas meets for seven consecutive Fridays from 7:00-9:00pm at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Each session follows a general format: topical presentations followed by small group discussions, or discussions as a couple. Couples are assigned to a sponsor couple who help lead the small group discussions. Each couple receives a workbook, which contains activities and worksheets for in-class and homework assignments. In addition to the Friday sessions there are two rituals administered at Sunday mass. The program is designed to aid engaged couples in gaining additional insights into their relationship and involve them in the parish community. Unitas satisfies the Step 3: Life Skills requirement for marriage preparation in the Diocese of Phoenix.
